GW Prefabricated Pipe HD (AF)

GW Prefabricated Pipe HD , durable glass wool are available unfaced or with aluminum foil facing. They provide thermal insulation for a wide range of applications, including industrial pipelines, heating systems, central heating systems, and solar energy installations. In addition to thermal insulation, they help prevent condensation and freezing and reduce noise and vibration in pressurized water lines. The pipes are selected according to the nominal pipe diameter and installed by opening them along the pre-cut joint. Unfaced products should be protected with metal cladding or bituminous coverings. Aluminum foil-faced products can be installed easily using their self-adhesive overlaps. To maintain vapor barrier continuity, 7.5 cm aluminum tape must be applied at the joints. For double-layer applications, the joints should be staggered and the closing joints should be positioned at the bottom of the pipe.

Technical purpose of productTo provide thermal insulation, prevent condensation and freezing, and reduce noise and vibration in industrial pipelines, heating systems, central heating systems, and solar energy installations.
Manufacturing or service provision descriptionİzocam Tarsus Glass Wool Plant manufactures glass wool prefabricated pipe insulation for industrial and heating applications. Sand, pre-consumer cullet, and inorganic raw materials are mixed and melted at high temperature, then spun into fine glass fibers. The fibers are cured and formed into pipe sections of various diameters and thicknesses, available unfaced or with aluminum foil facing and a self-adhesive overlap. Cutting scraps are reintroduced into production. Products are then cut to size, wrapped, and packaged for shipping.

Technology description including background systemThe product is an aluminium foil-faced glass wool prefabricated pipe insulation used for industrial pipelines, heating systems, and solar energy installations. It mainly consists of glass fibers made from external and internal glass cullet (~68% of mass), combined with mineral raw materials (feldspar, silica sand, sodium carbonate), a resin binder, and an aluminium foil facing (~13% of mass). Manufacturing involves melting the raw materials, fiberizing the molten glass, applying the binder, curing the fibers, and forming them into pipe sections with a self-adhesive aluminium overlap, followed by cutting and packaging. At end-of-life, the product is conservatively assumed to be fully landfilled, while packaging materials are partly recycled. Economic allocation was applied for external glass cullet, based on current market prices. The environmental burden of virgin glass production was allocated to cullet at 11.7%, reflecting its economic value relative to total glass production revenue. A modified dataset scaled to this share was used in the LCA model.
Scrap (recycled material) inputs contribution levelLess than 10% of the GWP-GHG results in modules A1-A3 come from scrap inputs

Data quality assessment

Description of data quality assessment and reference yearsLife Cycle Assessment (LCA) for this Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected directly from the manufacturer’s production processes and site-specific operations for the reference year 2024. The quality and representativeness of all data used for the EPD have been evaluated in terms of time, geography, and technology according to the principles outlined in EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, Annex E, and the data quality requirements specified in EN 15941:2010 for life cycle data. All relevant datasets were reviewed for completeness, consistency, and reliability, and the assessment confirmed that no data were classified as "poor" or "very poor" in quality.

The share of primary data is calculated based on GWP-GHG results. It is a simplified indicator for data quality that supports the use of more primary data to increase the representativeness of and comparability between EPDs. Note that the indicator does not capture all relevant aspects of data quality and is not comparable across product categories.
