Melkol 421 - melamine-urea-formaldehyde resin for particleboard and plywood

Urea-melamine-formaldehyde resin is produced by reacting urea and melamine with formaldehyde in an alkaline environment. The production of the resin is a multi-stage process involving varying temperature-time profiles, different molar ratios of the substrates, and different pH values. Alkali metal hydroxides are most commonly used as catalysts. The final product has a relatively high viscosity, is curable at elevated temperatures with the addition of a polycondensation catalyst based on acid salts, and is used primarily as a binder for gluing wood chips, and, after the addition of fillers, for the production of plywood with increased water resistance.
